About Tales of Myth and Magic

Some obsessions never leave you.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the dark edges of the world. The creatures that lurk in the mist, the legends passed down in hushed voices, the stories that refuse to be explained away. Cryptids. Folklore. Ancient mythology. The things that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

I’m John, and I’m from Glasgow, a city with no shortage of its own dark corners and strange tales (if you know where to look).

Tales of Myth and Magic started as a bucket list item. I was pushing 40, I’d always wanted to make a documentary-style video series about the creatures and legends that fascinated me, and I had absolutely no idea how to do it. So I just… did it anyway.

No film school. No production background. Just a genuine obsession and the decision to finally stop putting it off.

What started as a personal challenge has grown into something I’m genuinely proud of – a growing library of stories covering cryptids, legendary creatures, ancient mythology and the folklore that shaped the world long before anyone was writing it down.

Whether you’ve been into this stuff your whole life or you’ve just stumbled across your first kelpie, you’re welcome here.

The stories are waiting. Let’s go find them.
